Manipur Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam has reviewed plans to upgrade the Bishnupur District Hospital from its current 50-bed capacity to a 200-bed healthcare facility, as part of efforts to strengthen medical infrastructure and improve access to quality healthcare in the region.
The minister conducted an inspection of the hospital along with Deputy Commissioner Pooja Elangbam, the Superintendent of Police, Bishnupur, and senior officials from various departments. During the visit, officials assessed infrastructure requirements and examined detailed proposals outlining the facilities and enhancements needed for the expansion project.
Reaffirming the government's commitment to improving healthcare delivery, Konthoujam emphasized the importance of ensuring that residents can access advanced medical services within their own districts, reducing dependence on distant healthcare centers. The proposed expansion aligns with the broader “One District, One Medical College” vision aimed at strengthening healthcare infrastructure and medical education across the state.
Once completed, the upgraded facility is expected to significantly increase patient capacity, enhance emergency care capabilities, and expand access to specialized medical services, contributing to better healthcare outcomes for the people of Bishnupur district.
